CastTadeusz Konwicki, Gustaw Holoubek, Jan Englert Film descriptionI’m a friendly troublemaker. I just want things to happen, so there’s no boredom! – says Tadeusz Konwicki, the subject of the documentary The Passerby – but director Andrzej Titkow may well have said it himself. This lighthearted look at the prolific writer and film director traces Konwicki’s life in his own words against a soundtrack by Polish punk legends Tilt. The effect is a touching reflection on a life in art that includes questions about art itself, doubts about past choices, and genuinely funny anecdotes, like a six-kilometer walk on tiptoes – because the girl he was with was tall. At one point, Konwicki exclaims Well? Why don’t you say something? while looking deadpan into the camera. A philosophical satirist through and through.
