Cinematographic Apocalypse at the 12th T-Mobile New Horizons IFF

As part of The Happy End section in Wrocław, festival visitors will enjoy Images of the End of the World - films and audiovisual projects of Polish and foreign artists that play iconographically with the theme of exhaustion, tension, melancholy and apocalypse.

The Happy End is New Horizon's take on the apocalypse theme in the 12th Festival repertoire offering an alternative to popular apocalyptic cinema. One of the cinematic events in this section will be The Legend of Kaspar Hauser (La leggenda di Kaspar Hauser) by Davide Manuli - a delirious neowestern with Vincent Gallo and pulsing electro beats by DJ Vitalic. The audience will also be invited to see one of the first films of a director they are familiar with - F.J. Ossang - the postpunk Treasure of the Bitch Islands (Le trésor des îles chiennes), the Japanese Kuichisan by Maiko Endo - a meditation on the end of the traditional civilisation on the Okinawa island overwhelmed by American culture, Daimon - a project by Italian Zapruder filmmakers collective, as well as 3 Days of Darkness (Tatlong Araw ng Kadiliman) by enfante terrible Filipino - Khavn de la Cruz, a film about religious apocalypse unlike anything the local audience has seen before.

The section programme also includes three sets of short films telling about "depression" and "suicide". The first part includes the mysterious debut of the avant-garde American director Nina Menkes - The Great Sadness of Zohara from 1983 and the Finnish Consolation Service by Eija-Liisa Ahtilla. The "suicidal" part offers a study of female madness by Korean artists - Suicidal Variations by Kim Gok and Kim Sun as well as MS 101 by Karol Radziszewski inspired by the notes of Ludwig Wittgenstein.

The Happy End is a thematically organised "The Third Eye" section. The performance stage of the 12th T-Mobile New Horizons IFF will also include exhibitions at BWA Awangarda and BWA Design, as well as actions organised in the city space of Wrocław.
