Film description

Filmmaker Shuji fights for recognition of artistic cinema in his native Japan. Fed up with an unrelenting flood of commercial films, he screens classics on the roof of his house and takes to the streets, megaphone in hand, exhorting everyone at the top of his lungs to choose real films over empty entertainment. When it transpires that his brother owed a debt for which he paid with his life – a loan from the Yakuza to finance Shuji’s films – Shuji makes the gangsters an offer: he will come to their boxing club and be their human punching bag, but the dues will come down with each blow.

Under the guise of Japanese exploitation cinema’s esthetics and penchant for violence, Naderidelivers a biting critique of contemporary cinematography.
