Hanezu no tsuki

Film description

The pervasive redness throughout Hanezu is a constant reminder of the mystic connection between the present and the time of our ancestors. While the young tenaciously attempt to break that bond, the influence of generations past is inexorable. The past constantly permeates the present. Ghost of centuries past abound in this cinematic story’s documentary fragments from archeological digs, leaving traces in contemporaneity: on the lands of the Asuka region, the birthplace of the Japanese nation. Modern societies suffer because they don’t understand they are a part of nature. The catastrophic 2011 earthquakes in Japan made me more thoroughly aware of our earth’s fragile beauty, and therefore of us as well, expounds director Naomi Kawase.
